In 1942 the German army decided to convert a number of captured French vehicles for use as armoured artillery. The vehicle chosen was the Hotchkiss light tank and this was converted to carry a 105mm howitzer. The howitzer chosen was the 105mm leFH18, which was the standard field howitzer of the German army. The design was along the same lines as the previous work done to convert the Lorrain Schlepper, except for thicker armour. These vehicles were issued to the 21st panzer division. Designer M Bergman
